Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has expressed satisfaction with his team’s 0-0 draw against Hohoe United in Week 17 of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.

The Kpando-based side traveled to Hohoe for the first Volta derby of the season and had to settle for a point after a closely contested encounter. Both teams created chances but were unable to find the back of the net. Hohoe United missed a crucial penalty that could have secured victory, while Heart of Lions also squandered a clear opportunity.

Speaking after the match, Bashir Hayford described the game as a tough encounter and insisted that sharing the points was a fair outcome.

“I think it was a very tough game because both sides didn’t want to lose. The home side played aggressively, and we matched them boot for boot,” Hayford said. “They had a penalty they couldn’t convert, we also had a clear chance, and we couldn’t score. I think both sides are happy because the friendship between Hohoe and Kpando… maybe God didn’t want one to be happy and one to be sad, so all of us are sharing the points, and then we go home.”

The stalemate leaves Heart of Lions in sixth place on the GPL table, while Hohoe United remain in 15th spot.
