Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Fabio Dos Santos Gama, has shed light on his departure from the Ghana Premier League club after spending almost two seasons with them.

Gama joined Asante Kotoko in October 2020 ahead of the 2020/2021 league season and played for the club for two seasons. He made his debut for the team on December 27, 2020, coming off the bench against Medeama SC. However, on July 7, 2022, it was announced that Gama's contract had expired and he would be leaving the club.

Speculation arose in the local media that Gama left due to low salary and the club's inability to meet his financial demands. In an interview with ghanasportspage.com, Gama addressed these rumors and revealed the actual reasons for his departure.

Gama debunked the notion that he left due to financial reasons, stating that the salary at Asante Kotoko was not bad and it was sufficient for him and his family. While he acknowledged that the salary was not "fantastic," he emphasized that it was good enough for him.

”No, that’s not true”, Gama debunked financial reasons for his departure. ”The salary at Asante Kotoko was not bad, I can tell you it was not so fantastic but also not so bad. For me it was good, the salary was good for me and my family”, Gama clarified.

The Brazilian midfielder clarified that his decision to leave Asante Kotoko was motivated by a desire for a new challenge and a change of environment. After discussing with his family, they decided that it was time to experience a different league in another country with a different climate. Gama stated that he wanted to try his skills in a new league, which led to his departure from Asante Kotoko.

I left Kotoko because I wanted to change the weather. Because I had played in Ghana for two seasons, so I talked to my family and we decided to change club. We wanted to change to another league in another country, we wanted to try another league in another that was why I left Asante Kotoko”, Gama stated.

In July 2022, Fabio Gama officially joined Bahraini side Muharraq Club on a reported two-year deal, as he sought a fresh chapter in his football career.
