The experienced tactician and his backroom staff are set to leave the Kumasi-based outfit after eight months.

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Asante Kotoko are considering abrogating the contract of Abdul Karim Zito and his technical team following the club's recent uninspiring performances, Kickgh.com can exclusively report.

The decision to part ways with the former Dreams FC coach comes after the Porcupine Warriors failed to defend their FA Cup title, losing to Aduana FC.

The Porcupine Warriors suffered a 4-2 loss on penalties to the two-time Ghana Premier League champions in the round of 16 fixture in Kumasi on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

The 65-year-old arrived at Asante Kotoko in July 2025 and guided the Ghanaian giants to win their tenth FA Cup title, the 2025 President Cup, and also defeated South African side Kaizer Chiefs FC to win the Toyota Cup prior to the start of the 2025/26 season's campaign.

However, Asante Kotoko have been struggling in the Premier League with only one win in the second round, and the loss to Aduana FC in the FA Cup has compounded their woes.

Asante Kotoko will be hosting their sworn rivals in the Ghana Premier League match-week 22 fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which has been described as a must-win game.

The leadership of the club, led by Nana Apinkrah, is unsatisfied with the team's performance under Karim Zito, and he and his technical team will be stepping aside ahead of the crucial fixture next weekend.

Kickgh.com understands that Hamza Obeng, who currently works with the Asante Kotoko youth team, is expected to sit in the dugout as a stop-gap coach for the match against Hearts of Oak.

Asante Kotoko's hopes of playing in next season's CAF inter-club competitions will solely rely on the Premier League after suffering elimination from the FA Cup in the round of 16.
