Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has rejected calls for him to be sacked, saying it is too early to judge his work.

The former Dreams FC boss is under growing pressure after a run of inconsistent results this season. Kotoko are currently fifth in the Ghana Premier League with 35 points from 21 matches.

The pressure increased on Sunday when the Porcupine Warriors were knocked out of the FA Cup by Aduana FC. The Round of 16 clash at the Baba Yara Stadium ended goalless after 90 minutes, before Kotoko lost 4–2 on penalties.

Some supporters had already called for Zito’s removal even before the FA Cup game. However, the coach appealed for patience.

Speaking to Asempa FM on Friday, January 6, ahead of the match, Zito said: “Calls for my dismissal are premature. I ask the fans to support the team as we hope to achieve our target.”

The FA Cup exit has increased scrutiny on Zito, as the competition was seen as Kotoko’s best chance of winning a trophy this season. In the league, they are eight points behind leaders Medeama SC.

Kotoko will now shift focus to the Super Clash against Hearts of Oak on Sunday, February 15, at the Baba Yara Stadium in Matchday 22 of the Ghana Premier League.
