Ghana coach Otto Addo says the Ghana Premier League (GPL) has shown promise of being highly ranked as he handed call ups to players in the league for the upcoming Unity Cup.

Accra Hearts of Oak's goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, Razak Simpson of Nations FC, Kwame Opoku of Asante Kotoko and Medeama SC's Kamaridini Mamudu were handed call ups for the squad for the Unity Cup and Otto Addo believes that the level of quality in the GPL got the quartet into the squad.

Explaining why he dolled out call ups to the quartet in an interview ahead of the tourney, Coach Addo noted that the league had not only succeeded in “showcasing the budding talents in the country but had also unearthed local stars who can match some of the best players in his Black Stars team.”

“If you’ve watched our recent games, we’ve always had local players in our squad and also playing. I rate the league very high otherwise we wouldn’t have players in our squad which can compete on that level…and I’m looking forward to seeing them on that level.”

Ghana will open their Unity Cup campaign on Wednesday against West African rivals Nigeria before playing their second game on May 31 against either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago.
