Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim has opened up about the reasons behind his departure from the club, shedding light on his relationship with then-head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum and the performance issues that contributed to his exit.
In an interview with GTV Sports Plus, the current Ethiopian Coffee SC goalkeeper acknowledged that a dip in form played a significant role in his exclusion from the first team and ultimately his exit from the Porcupine Warriors.
“We should be honest, it’s a job we are doing,” Danlad said. “So if you play and things don’t go smoothly, it’s not every coach that will keep you in the team. The head coach [Prosper Ogum] also had to think about keeping his job.”
His comments reflect a mature and professional understanding of the situation, emphasizing that team selection often depends on performance and accountability. Danlad lost his starting role at Kotoko after a series of inconsistent displays, prompting Coach Ogum to look elsewhere in goal.
Despite the setback, Danlad has found new life with Ethiopian Coffee SC, where he has been a standout performer in the 2024/25 Ethiopia Premier League season.
The 2021/22 Ghana Premier League champion has kept an impressive 14 clean sheets in 24 matches, re-establishing himself as one of the most consistent goalkeepers on the continent.
