Hearts of Oak defender Kelvin Osei Asibeyhas praised his team for staying strong in their narrow 1–0 win over FC Samartex at the University of Ghana Stadium on Friday.
According to Asibey, the victory is a big lift for the players and the Phobian fans.
Hamza Issah’s first-half goal made the difference as the Phobians secured all three points, despite periods of a sluggish display against the 7th-placed Timber Giants.
Speaking after the match, Osei Asibey underlined how significant the victory was for the Phobians after the frustration of their Matchweek 15 goalless draw away to Aduana FC.
“It was important to us, the players and also to our supporters, because our game against Aduana we were supposed to win that game, but we couldn’t win the game, so coming into this game, we have to do something to make our supporters happy,” he said.
The 25-year-old, who has made 13 appearances so far this season, is yet to register a goal with one match remaining in the first round of the campaign.
Hearts of Oak wrap up the first half of the season with a tough trip to title contenders Medeama SC in Matchday 17 at TNA Stadium on Sunday, January 4.
