Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has showered praise on his players following their hard-fought victory over Berekum Chelsea in the opening round of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
Speaking to the press after the game, Zito insisted that his side fully deserved the three points, commending their fighting spirit and ability to create numerous chances.
“After a hard-fought football match, I have done justice to Kotoko. If you look at the way we played, we created a lot of chances. If we ended this game with a draw, I don’t think it would have been fair. So, I’m very happy with my boys,” the Kotoko boss said.
The win was a historic one for the Porcupine Warriors, marking their first-ever league triumph over Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park in 15 years.
Zito believes the result will inject confidence into his squad as they prepare for their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup campaign, where they face Nigeria’s Kwara United in a two-legged tie scheduled for September 21 and September 28.
