President of Bechem United, Kingsley Owusu Achau, famously known as Agama has stated that the premature departure of various top tier clubs from the MTN FA Cup was due to the lengthy break of the Ghana Premier League.
Agama made these comments during an interview he had with Graphic Sports, admitting that even though the break was imperative, it had a detrimental effect on the elite clubs, putting them in jeopardy against lower tier side's that were active in their respective leagues.
"Because the league was on break, most of the players were not taking training seriously because they knew they wouldn't play any league matches," Agama explained.
"As a result, they became rusty and struggled against lower-division teams who were still actively playing in their league."
He gladly accepted the resumption of the Ghana Premier League this weekend, saying that it would offer clubs the chance for more crucial matches.
"We also suffered the same fate due to rustiness, but we are confident we can still fight for a good position in the league, even after being docked three points this season," he said.
