Asante Kotoko interim management committee (IMC) member, Kwesi Appiah, has played down concerns over the club’s poor run in the ongoing GHALCA Top 4 tournament, insisting that preseason results are of little importance compared to the bigger competitions ahead.

Speaking to Ghanasportspage.com, the former Black Stars coach underlined that the tournament’s real value lies in preparing the players for the upcoming season rather than chasing victories.

“Even if we lose 10-0, I don’t care,” Appiah remarked. “The most important thing is that the players are getting game time. If I were Karim Zito, I would have even used the youth team for the tournament. The real focus is the league and the CAF Confederation Cup.”

The Porcupine Warriors currently sit bottom of the standings with no points after two games, following defeats to Bibiani Gold Stars and Heart of Lions.

Kotoko will round off their campaign against Hearts of Oak on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at 18:00 GMT in what promises to be a heated clash despite the stakes being low.

The GHALCA Top 4, which features the four best teams from the previous Ghana Premier League season, is traditionally used as a preseason warm-up competition ahead of the league campaign.
