Richard Osei Agyemang, former defender of Ashantigold has stated that if care is not taken amateur players will take over Ghana Premier League in the coming years.
The 29-year-old added his opinion to the mass departure of players from the Ghana top-flight.
Speaking to Kessben FM in a straightforward interview, Agyemang envisages amateur players will in the coming years take over the Ghana Premier League since clubs are not ready to offer profitable remuneration to the quality players in the league.
“There is no local player who is rich. There is no one, I tell you. I dare anyone to come out. If players earn good money they will stay in the league. Salaries given to players in the local scene are nothing to write home about. If a local player earns GHC10,000, I don’t think that player will move outside. We have to fight for the boys so they can also get something. Very soon, we will see amateur players playing in the league” he said.
Since leaving Ghana to seek greener pastures abroad in 2023, the former Asante Kotoko defender has had stints with India's Real Kashmir and Dhangadhi in Nepal.
