Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko has made significant progress in their efforts to secure the signature of Accra Lions midfielder Shawkan Hunalf Mohammed in the ongoing transfer window.

The transformative midfielder, who has a few weeks left on his contract with Accra Lions, is set to become the latest signing of Asante Kotoko for the 2024–25 season's campaign.

Kickgh.com can exclusively report that the Porcupine Warriors have agreed terms with the 21-year-old for his possible acquisition to bolster their midfield.

With the club undergoing massive rebuilding under the technical team led by Prosper Narteh Ogum, all departments are set to be strengthened, and the imminent arrival of the talented central midfielder will be very important for the Kumasi-based club in the upcoming campaign.

Shawkan Mohammed will be undergoing a mandatory medical examination before signing a three-year contract to join Asante Kotoko on a free transfer.

The Accra Lions skipper has already turned down a two-year contract extension offer tabled by the club, which included a move to a club in Malaysia this summer.

He arrived at Accra Lions in 2021 from their partner club, Koowa Naso United FC, when he turned 18 for an undisclosed fee.

Shawkan Mohammed made 68 appearances for Accra Lions in the Ghana Premier League, scored one goal, and provided an assist.

The ongoing rebuilding at Asante Kotoko

Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum and the leadership of Asante Kotoko confirmed the departure of twenty-one (21) players, which included Richmond Lamptey, Enoch Morrison, Ibrahim Danlad, Steven Mukwala, and others, at the end of the season.

Following the mass contract termination of players at the club, Asante Kotoko has already announced the signing of Sudanese duo Abdoel Rahman Yoouef Yagoub and Esmat Hassabalbagi.

Other new signings who have joined Asante Kotoko are Joseph Alborh, Patrick Asiedu, Emmanuel Antwi, Saaka Dauda, Elvis Kyei Baffour, Albert Amoah, and Congolese defender Ndongani Samba Gilbani.

Asante Kotoko are currently preparing for the 2024–25 Ghana Premier League season, which is scheduled to start on September 6th, 2024.
