Asante Kotoko SC have initiated discussions with Berekum Chelsea coach Samuel Boadu over the possibility of appointing him as the club’s new head coach, Kickgh.com has exclusively learned.

This move comes in the wake of Kotoko's decision to part ways with Prosper Narteh Ogum following a series of disappointing results. Former national youth coach Karim Zito is currently serving as interim head coach.

According to sources, the Porcupine Warriors are now engaged in negotiations with Boadu and his representatives, aiming to have him take over the reins permanently ahead of the next season.

Boadu, 38, was sacked by Hearts of Oak in September last year after a poor start to the 2022/23 campaign, which included an early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup. Despite that setback, he boasts an impressive record from his time at Hearts, where he won the Ghana Premier League title in 2021 — the club’s first in a decade — and also secured back-to-back FA Cup trophies.

Before joining Hearts in 2021, Boadu coached Medeama SC and quickly built a reputation as one of Ghana’s top young tacticians.

If talks are successful, Boadu is expected to officially assume the Kotoko job at the start of the 2025/26 season.

Coincidentally, Boadu’s Berekum Chelsea will face Kotoko in the MTN FA Cup semi-final this Sunday at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa — a clash that could serve as a preview of things to come.
