Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Alhassan has voiced concerns over the recent performances of club captain Frederick Asare, urging the shot-stopper to bring more focus and dedication to his game.
Alhassan's comments follow Asare's heavily criticized performance in Kotoko's 2-1 loss to Legon Cities in a Ghana Premier League matchup on Wednesday at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Speaking in an interview with Kessben FM, Alhassan emphasized the competition Asare faces, particularly with fellow goalkeeper Mohammed Camara ready to challenge for the starting position. "Frederick Asare should be serious," Alhassan stated. "He should remember that if Camara takes his spot, it could be very difficult for him to regain the number one position. Frederick is a talented goalkeeper, but he must be mindful that Camara is equally capable."
Alhassan further added that if Camara were Ghanaian, he would likely be competing for a spot in the national team, underscoring the high level of skill Camara brings to the squad.
Despite the setback, Asante Kotoko retains its second-place position in the league standings. They will seek redemption this Sunday when they face Heart of Lions at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
