The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced the fixtures for the 2024-25 Malta Guinness Women's Premier League (WPL), which is set to kick off on Friday, October 18, 2024.
The league, featuring teams from both the Northern and Southern zones, will see exciting matchups in the opening round. In the Northern Zone, Kumasi Sports Academy will face Supreme Ladies at home, while Dreamz Ladies are set to travel to Tamale to take on Tamale Super Ladies. Other key matches include Northern Ladies versus FC Savannah and Fosu Royal Ladies against Sung Shinning Ladies. The highly anticipated clash between Prisons Ladies and Ampem Darkoa Ladies will also take place on MatchDay 1.
In the Southern Zone, Ladystrikers FC will host Police Ladies, while Hasaacas Ladies welcome Berry Ladies. Soccer Intellectuals are set to take on Army Ladies away from home, Epiphany Warriors will battle Faith Ladies, and Jonina Ladies will go head-to-head with Halifax Queens in their season opener.
The first round of the WPL is scheduled to run from the weekend of October 18-21, 2024, and conclude on the weekend of January 24-27, 2025. The second round will begin on the weekend of January 31-February 3, 2025, and wrap up on the weekend of April 11-14, 2025.
The league will observe several breaks throughout the season, including a pause for the December 7, 2024 National Elections to allow players and officials to participate in their civic duties. There will also be rest periods during Christmas and New Year, as well as dates set aside for the 2024/25 Women’s FA Cup matches.
The season will culminate in a grand finale between the winners of the Northern and Southern zones, scheduled for the weekend of May 2-5, 2025. The early conclusion of the league is designed to assist the eventual champions in preparing for the WAFU B Champions League qualifying competition.
