Dr. Randy Abbey, Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has clarified that there are no ongoing negotiations with Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) regarding broadcast rights for the Ghana Premier League.
GBC had previously sought broadcast rights but lost out to StarTimes in 2019. The current agreement with StarTimes concluded with the end of the 2023/2024 season.
Abbey stated, “I am not aware of any discussions with GBC about TV rights. The only communication from GBC has been about requesting radio commentary rights.”
He added that the GFA is currently in discussions with StarTimes about renewing their contract, noting, “The previous contract with StarTimes ended, and there are outstanding issues we are working to resolve. We aim to sort out these matters and move forward.”
The new Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to kick off on September 6.
