Accra Lions have bounced back from two Premier League draw and one defeat to beat Berekum Chelsea 5-0 at WAFA Park on Saturday lunchtime.
Dominic Amponsah (31st minute), Ali Mohammed (43rd minute), Blessing Asuman (57th and 65th minutes) scored against a wasteful Bibires side that failed to score a single goal.
Enterprising’ Abdul-Shakun Abubakari climbed off the bench to seal the victory, notching the ‘Yen Nyinaa Dea’ lads fifth goal in the 88th minute.
Both teams named a strong starting lineup, and it was Accra Lions who made the stronger start, capitalising on Berekum Chelsea’s sloppiness in possession; Blessing Asuman and Shawkan created the hosts' best chance, with the latter having lots of options to find a pass in the box but he decided to go for glory but his shot missed the target
Despite Berekum Chelsea’s efforts to make the net ripple, the teen-studded Lions stood firm to secure their sixth win of the season as well as their third Premier League win over the Bibires – plunging their new gaffer Samuel Boadu into a state of confusion.
Although today’s heavy win for Ibrahim Tanko’s side has moved them to 12th place in the Premier League table, hopes of causing a tsunami in the second round of the season is in the right direction.
As for Berekum Chelsea, they have gone back to the losing methodology after thrashing Karela United 3-0 at home last weekend, and Samuel Boadu’s men – for the time being – remain 6th in the table, five points below the top of the table.
Accra Lions turn their attention to next midweeks action at Baba Yara Stadium against Asante Kotoko, while Berekum Chelsea are next in top-flight action at home against Aduana Stars with both fixtures coming off on Wednesday, March 13.
