Karela United nipped on Ibrahim Giyas's 60th minute header to steal an important 1-0 win over giants Asante Kotoko at the Naa Sheriga Sports Center in the opening fixture of Ghana Premier League match-week 20.

Karela United named a strong line up that had Emmanuel Anaful, Fatawu Mohammed, Giyas Ibrahim, Solomon Aboagye, Maxwell Arthur and others and looked very poised for nothing but a win.

On the part of Kotoko, both Richmond Lamptey and Nicholas Mensah who missed their last game due to suspension, all returned in the starting XI.

Both teams started the game on an explosive note. They took it at each other from all angles right from the blast of the whistle but there was no goal produced at half time.

In the second half, the home team returned very well and began to take full control of the game having dominated in terms of goal attempts made and others.

The 'Pride and Passion' side finally found the back of the net on the 60th minute thanks to a towering header from Ibrahim Giyas from a corner kick to hand his side the lead.

The Porcupine Warriors subsequently did all they could but couldn't get the leveller as it finished 1-0 after full time.

Karela United are back on winning path after the win and have now climbed up to the 13th position on the league log with 23 points.
