With the resumption of the League on Saturday, the Ghana Premier League table saw some interesting shakeups, as relegation trodden - Heart of Lions, who are still in a relegation battle, fifth from the foot of the table, and after replacing coach Fatawu with Bashir Hayford they have recorded some string of good results, hoping to steer the Lions to escape relegation.
With a big win today, Heart of Lions punished Asante Kotoko 1-0 at the Kpando Stadium and are now fourteenth of the latest table, although that could certainly change over the next couple of hours.
In a game that was full of tenacity and high tempo, the home team played and continued to assert their dominance as they dished out a performance like wounded lions.
However, things opened up after 50 minutes as the Lions got on the board, scoring the only goal of the match in the 52nd minute through blazing pacey forward - Godfred Kwadwo Asamoah.
Kotoko weren’t able to equalise as their players were forced to defend profusely following a red card being filled-out to Nicholas Mensah in the 59th minute.
The win for the Pride of Volta moves them to the 14th of the table, at least for now. Still, there’s time for them to move to a safe position on the log as the season continues.
Kotoko are still 3rd with 29 points in the table, and the future of the team lies on the hands of the players as the bragging rights to who is going to win the league will be opened soon.
