Reports in Ghana on Thursday claimed that the former Great Olympics star has left the club mutually despite having 15 months left on his current contract.
However, Awako has debunked such reports that he has left the fold of the Phobians – and has assured the fans to expect blazing performance as they prepare for the start of the 2023-24 campaign.
“At the moment I'm still a player of Hearts of Oak, I have 14-15 months left. We don't have a coach for now, a new coach might come with a new philosophy but I m happy to captain this great team," Awako told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.
“All I will say for now is that I'm still a Hearts of Oak player when the season starts we the fans should expect different team performances, we will give out our best as we have been doing always to make the club great again," he added.
Awako, 32, made only 10 appearances due to a worrisome injury and scored two goals for Hearts in all competitions in the 2022-23 season.
Hearts of Oak ended their season in the 12th spot - bagging just 46 points and four points above the relegation zone.
