Head coach of Heart of Lions, Bashir Hayford has admitted his players are struggling mentally after the club’s poor run of form in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.

The 'Dzie Woa Nu' are now winless in eight matches, a slump that has dented their hopes of mounting a serious title challenge in the ongoing campaign.

Speaking after Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Dreams FC, Hayford said he was frustrated that his team played well but failed to get a win.

“My worry is that we have lost about three or four matches in a row. Everywhere we go, people see that we are playing good football, but at the end of the day we lose,” he told Heart of Lions TV.

“That’s exactly what happened today. We dominated, but out of the blue, they scored.”

The experienced coach explained that not winning for a long time has taken a psychological toll on his players, leaving team spirit and morale low.

“Now the major work is on the players. I have to psyche them. They are really down. Having fought and at the end of the day they don’t take anything home, it’s a worry, but we will continue working hard,” Hayford added.

Heart of Lions will be hoping to bounce back when they face relegation-trodden Eleven Wonders in their Matchweek 19 fixture on Sunday, January 18.
