Coach Bashir Hayford has admitted Heart of Lions will have to do a "special" performance to beat Young Apostles on Sunday and believes a victory could provide the spark that would reignite their title push.

The  'Dzie Woa Nu' have been in fumbling form since Christmas, playing poorly and winning just eight out of 17 games in the Ghana Premier League, a run that has also seen them lose twice and draw ones at home, most recently against Dreams in March.

However, across the same period Apostles have been meek, winning six, drawing five and losing seven of their fixtures, gasping for breath and sweating profusely, with Heart of Lions opening up a seventeen-point gap on Apostles in fifteenth.

This makes it make-or-break for Heart of Lions for their return to Wenchi, especially given Apostles fighting to stay afloat and maintain their Premier League status next season.

“The game against Basake Holy Stars was a very tough game. We have split the points one-one. We will take it like that and go home. We will go and prepare, and then we will see what we will do next time [against Young Apostles]," Coach Bashir Hayford stated after their game against Holy Stars.

“For the league title race, it’s not over until it’s over."

Meanwhile, while the odds may be against 'Agya Na ƆwƆ Tumi' side, recent history looks clear – Lions stunned by just a goal in the first round of the campaign when the teams met at the Kpando Stadium in December 2024; Lions went on to win 1-0 and secured the three points at home.
