Berekum Chelsea head coach Samuel Boadu has apologized to supporters following his side’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko at the Golden City Park on Saturday in the opening round of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

The Blues, who had never lost to Kotoko on home soil since 2010, saw their long-standing record broken when Albert Amoah struck the decisive goal in the 70th minute after latching onto a fine through ball from Hubert Gyau.

Reflecting on the setback, Coach Boadu admitted his side were punished for their wastefulness in front of goal during the first half.

“Congratulations to Asante Kotoko. We didn’t take our chances in the first half. I apologize to all Berekum Chelsea fans for the result,” Boadu said after the match.

The loss ends Chelsea’s 15-year unbeaten home run against Kotoko, a result that will sting the fans but also serve as a wake-up call for the squad. Despite the disappointment, Boadu expressed confidence that his team will bounce back strongly in their upcoming fixtures as they aim to improve on last season’s mid-table finish.
