Fresh details have emerged over the death of Berekum Chelsea defender Dominic Frimpong after his father questioned the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

Nana Frimpong alleged that his son was “killed” and not merely a victim of the armed robbery attack that targeted the club’s bus while returning from a Ghana Premier League match.

“My son was not shot; I believe he was killed. There were no signs or evidence of gunshot wounds on his body.

"I believe Berekum Chelsea used my son as a sacrifice in their fight to avoid relegation," he claimed in an interview with Fakye TV, calling for more clarity over the circumstances surrounding the player’s death.

However, the officer in charge of the mortuary at Bibiani Municipal Government Hospital, Mr Nyamekye, has clarified that Dominic Frimpong died from a gunshot injury.

According to Mr Nyamekye, medical examination confirmed that the 20-year-old defender sustained a gunshot wound to the forehead.

Frimpong died after masked gunmen reportedly attacked Berekum Chelsea’s team bus following their 1-0 defeat to Samartex in Samreboi. The club said the attackers opened fire while the driver attempted to reverse, forcing players and officials to flee into nearby bushes.

Police have confirmed that the young defender sustained gunshot wounds and died while receiving treatment, with investigations and a manhunt for the suspects ongoing.

Frimpong joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January and was considered one of the promising young talents in the Ghana Premier League.
