Nana Yaw Amponsah, the CEO of Asante Kotoko, has revealed his efforts to persuade Franck Mbella Etouga to remain at the club before his move to Egypt.
Etouga had an impressive debut season for Asante Kotoko, scoring 21 goals in the league and narrowly missing out on the top scorer title, which was claimed by Yaw Annor.
Nana Yaw Amponsah admitted that he personally pleaded with the striker to stay at the club for their CAF Champions League campaign, believing that a successful run in the tournament would increase his value and attract European interest in January.
"I practically begged him because I knew FC Zurich were interested in him but would only sign him in January," Nana Yaw Amponsah disclosed during an interview with Oyerepa FM.
"I even begged him, mentioning that if he helps us qualify for the group stages of the Champions League, his value will rise, and by January, a European team will come for him. I even mentioned the name of the team to him."
Despite Nana Yaw Amponsah's efforts, Etouga ultimately decided to join Egyptian club El Masry, and his departure from Asante Kotoko was inevitable.
