Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has played down concerns over his team’s strikers failing to score regularly in recent matches, insisting that results matter more than who gets on the scoresheet.
Tanko made the comments after Medeama edged Hearts of Oak 1-0 at the TNA Stadium, with former Phobians midfielder Salim Adams netting the decisive goal against his old club.
The victory further strengthened Medeama’s grip at the top of the Ghana Premier League, as they remain leaders on 34 points, two clear of second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Tanko expressed satisfaction with the outcome and appeared unconcerned when quizzed about the lack of goals from his forwards.
“No, I think we are a team. If the defenders score the goals for us to get what we want, that is fine,” he said.
The Medeama coach also backed his midfielders to contribute more goals, stressing that their style of play creates enough opportunities.
“Our midfielders, with how we play, will definitely get chances. If they make use of them, they will score more goals,” Tanko added.
Medeama will look to maintain their impressive league form when they face Young Apostles on Sunday, January 11.
