Medeama head coach Ibrahim Tanko has attributed the club’s impressive goalscoring form this season to a collective attacking philosophy rather than relying on individual brilliance.
The Yellow and Mauves have scored 12 goals in the Ghana Premier League so far, with seven different players finding the back of the net ahead of their Matchday 7 encounter against FC Samartex.
Kingsley Braye leads Medeama’s scoring charts with four goals, while Kelvin Nkrumah and Emmanuel Annor have contributed two goals each. Four other players have also added a goal apiece to the team’s tally.
According to Tanko, the spread of goals reflects the team’s approach of involving every player in the attacking phase, from defenders to midfielders and forwards.
“No, I mean, it’s not only the attackers. We play as a team. As you know, we always start from the back and involve the midfielders,” he said.
“So definitely, it’s easier for the strikers to score because they are getting very good passes from our midfielders and very good crosses. Like I said, we are training, and it’s getting better. We hope it stays that way.”
Medeama will look to continue their strong attacking performances when they travel to face FC Samartex at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena on Sunday, October 18.
Tanko’s side currently sit top of the Ghana Premier League table with 14 points after recording four wins and two draws from their opening six matches, making them the only unbeaten team in the competition.
Samartex, who occupy third position with 11 points, will be hoping to maintain their impressive home form and hand Medeama their first defeat of the campaign.
With both teams enjoying strong starts to the season, Medeama’s ability to find goals from various areas of the pitch could be a key factor in what promises to be a tightly contested encounter. Four of the last eight league meetings between the two sides have ended in draws.
