New Asante Kotoko signing Johnson Owusu Oppong has expressed his excitement and commitment after completing a dream switch to the Porcupine Warriors ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The former Dreams FC winger signed a two-year contract with the Kumasi-based giants as the club strengthens its squad for the upcoming campaign.

Oppong, renowned for his flair, technical ability, and attacking instinct, makes a return to the Ghana Premier League following impressive spells both locally and abroad.

In an interview with the club's media, the 26-year-old downplayed pressure at the club, instead focusing on his desire to contribute meaningfully to the team’s ambitions.

“There’s pressure in football everywhere you go. I know Asante Kotoko is a big club with high expectations, but I’m here to give my best. The club means a lot to me,” Oppong said.

Oppong was a standout performer during his time at Dreams FC, playing a key role in their historic 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup run, where the Dawu-based club reached the semi-finals for the first time in their history. His performances during that campaign earned him widespread plaudits for his creativity and big-game mentality.

In addition to his exploits in Ghana, Oppong brings a wealth of international experience. He previously played for Portuguese side C.S. Marítimo over four seasons, and also had stints with Czech outfit FC Zlín and Albanian club KF Kukësi. His time in Europe has molded him into a more complete and tactically disciplined player.

Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito will be hoping to tap into Oppong’s experience and maturity, especially as the club prepares for its return to continental competition in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup after a two-year hiatus.

Oppong's arrival is expected to boost Kotoko’s attacking options and inject much-needed pace and creativity on the flanks as the team eyes both domestic and continental success.
