Congolese defender Gilbani Ndongani Samba O’Neil has shared his thoughts on his debut season with Asante Kotoko, expressing mixed feelings despite a strong individual campaign.

The 25-year-old joined the Ghanaian giants at the start of the 2024/25 season and quickly established himself as a key figure in the squad. He made 30 appearances in the Ghana Premier League, scoring one goal, and played a pivotal role in Kotoko’s backline throughout the season.

While the Porcupine Warriors narrowly missed out on the league title, they ended the season on a high by clinching the MTN FA Cup.

Speaking to the club’s media team, Samba O’Neil admitted he was disappointed not to achieve a domestic double.

“I wanted to win two trophies with Asante Kotoko, but it didn’t happen,” he said. “I’m not happy because I only won one trophy—the FA Cup—with my team.”

Thanks to their FA Cup triumph, Kotoko will represent Ghana in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, and Samba O’Neil is expected to be a vital part of their continental campaign.

With one successful season under his belt, the Congolese defender will be aiming to help Kotoko go further both in Africa and in the domestic league next season.
