Former Ghana Football Association Vice President George Afriyie has dismissed reports linking him with the Chief Executive Officer role at Asante Kotoko, despite ongoing speculation surrounding the club’s future leadership structure.
Recent discussions within Ghana’s football space suggested the experienced administrator was among candidates being considered for a senior executive position at the Kumasi-based club ahead of the 2026/27 season. The reports sparked widespread debate among supporters as Kotoko continue efforts to strengthen their administrative setup.
Addressing the rumours, Afriyie acknowledged the stature of the Porcupine Warriors but clarified that he is not pursuing the position.
“Asante Kotoko is undoubtedly a big club with a rich history, but currently I am not in the race to become the club’s CEO,” he said, as quoted by GhanaWeb.
He further explained that no official approach has been made, stressing that any discussions circulating remain unofficial.
“There may be conversations in some circles, but nobody has contacted me about becoming CEO. I have friends at the club, but nothing has been formally discussed,” he added.
The clarification comes amid ongoing conversations about restructuring Kotoko’s administrative system, with reports indicating the club could phase out its interim management arrangement, which has been in place for the past two seasons, as part of broader plans to ensure long-term stability and progress.
