Bibiani Gold Stars chief executive Kwasi Adu has insisted that the dismissal of head coach Frimpong Manso was not a reaction to the club’s recent defeat in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Miners were beaten 2-0 by Algerian side JS Kabylie in Accra last weekend, leaving their continental hopes in doubt.

However, according to Adu, the board had already resolved to seek a new direction regardless of the result.

“We are not so much interested in Africa, and nobody should attribute Frimpong Manso’s sacking to the JS Kabylie defeat,” Adu said.

Instead, he described the decision as part of a longer-term plan to reshape the club’s technical leadership.

Gold Stars are expected to appoint a replacement in the coming days as they aim to stabilise their season both in the Ghana Premier League and in Africa.
