Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku has reportedly been informed that he is no longer part of the club’s plans ahead of the 2026/27 season.
According to an exclusive report by Kumasi-based Opemsuo Radio, Director of Football Stanley Menzo and head coach Eric Tinkler have advised the 27-year-old to look for a new club, explaining that they cannot guarantee him a place in the squad they are building for the upcoming campaign.
The decision comes less than a year after Opoku returned to the Porcupine Warriors, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract following his departure from Moroccan side Olympique Khouribga.
The forward struggled with injuries during the 2025/26 season but still managed to score four goals in 16 appearances for Kotoko.
Opoku, previously enjoyed a successful first spell with the club during the 2020/21 campaign, scoring six goals and providing three assists in just 16 matches. His impressive performances earned him a transfer to Algerian giants USM Alger before he later moved to Olympique Khouribga in Morocco.
With Kotoko reshaping their squad under Eric Tinkler, Opoku is now expected to seek a new destination as he looks to revive his career ahead of the new season.
