Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Poku has expressed deep appreciation for former teammate Fabio Gama, crediting the Brazilian playmaker for his successful first spell at the club.
Opoku and Gama formed a dynamic partnership during the 2020/21 season, where Kotoko claimed the Ghana Premier League title. Poku’s impressive goal-scoring form—netting 6 goals in 16 appearances—was significantly supported by Gama’s creativity and playmaking abilities.
Having returned to Kotoko for a second stint after playing for USM Alger and Olympique Khouribga in Morocco, Poku reminisced about his time with Gama, calling him an exceptional player.
“Fabio Gama is an exceptional player. He is small in stature but very intelligent on the ball. I missed playing with him because he was the only player consistently assisting my goals during my time with Kotoko. He will always be in my heart,” Poku said.
Poku’s return to Kotoko was sealed with a two-and-a-half-year contract. He returns to the club after a challenging period in Algeria and Morocco, where injuries and limited playing time hampered his progress. A troublesome knee injury during his time with Olympique Khouribga saw him sidelined for significant spells, and he was eventually released following the club’s relegation from the Moroccan top flight.
Now back at Kotoko, Poku will look to rekindle his successful partnership with the club and contribute to their future successes.
