Asante Kotoko's Head of Sporting Affairs, Kwesi Appiah, has shed light on the recent restructuring within the club’s technical hierarchy following the formation of the Interim Management Committee (IMC).

Appiah, who initially accepted the role of technical director after the dissolution of Dr. Kwame Kyei's board and Nana Yaw Amponsah's management team, stepped aside in November. The position was handed to club legend and former coach Malik Jabir.

In an interview with Asempa FM, Appiah explained that the decision was made in the club's best interest, as his commitments as head coach of the Sudanese national team limited his availability.

"I initially took the role of technical director, but considering my commitments with Sudan, I didn’t feel I could do justice to the position. We needed someone who could actively support the team, and Malik Jabir was the perfect fit. He has extensive experience, having coached various national teams," Appiah stated.

He added that Malik Jabir’s appointment allows head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum to fully focus on leading the team.

“We wanted Prosper Narteh Ogum to concentrate on the team, which is why Malik Jabir was brought in. Malik has the willingness and experience to support the team, including traveling for matches. When he’s unavailable, an assistant will step in to help Prosper,” Appiah revealed.

The changes come ahead of Kotoko's Super Clash against bitter rivals Hearts of Oak in a matchday 13 fixture of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League. The much-anticipated game will take place at the Baba Yara Stadium, with both teams vying for supremacy and crucial points in the league.

Appiah also hinted at plans to appoint an assistant technical director to further bolster the club’s support structure.

Asante Kotoko will look to leverage these structural adjustments as they seek to secure a win against their long-time rivals in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
