Bibiani Goldstars have moved up to the top spot of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League table following their slim home win over Real Tamale United (RTU) on Monday afternoon.
The Miners have extended their unbeaten streak to five games after recorded a 1-0 victory over RTU in their Ghana Premier League match-week nine encounter at the Dun's Park in Bibiani.
The Ghana Premier League returned after a four-week break for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar where the Black Stars of Ghana failed to make it to the knockout stage.
Bibiani Goldstars returned from the recess in a fashion to secure an important win over RTU to move to the first position of the table.
The home side commenced the game on a good note to open the score through Noah Martey on the 28th minute.
Before the opener, Goldstars came close to open the score through Ibrahim Laar on the 10th minute but his strike was denied by the woodwork.
Real Tamale United warmed themselves into the fixture with the hopes of getting the best of their efforts but it all went futile.
Martey brilliantly gave Bibiani the lead with an audacious strike which saw goalkeeper Yaw Osei crawling in his net. His goal eventually became the only goal to be recorded in the match.
In the second half, Real Tamale United looked dangerous upfront with some early incursions but the backline of Goldstars were resolute to deny them from scoring.
Real Tamale United missed the services of David Abagna Sanda, who is currently with the Black Galaxies in camp for the 2023 CHAN tournament, in their attack when most of the goal glaring opportunities got squandered.
Coach Micheal Osei's side held on with the 1-0 lead to secure all the three maximum points to maintain their unbeaten run in the ongoing season.
Following the results, Bibiani Goldstars occupies the top spot with 16 points while RTU lies 12th position with 11 points after nine games.
