A first half goal from Steven Mukwala was enough to secure Asante Kotoko their fifth victory of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season against Berekum Chelsea on Monday evening.
Asante Kotoko recorded third consecutive win in the ongoing season with a 1-0 victory against Berekum Chelsea at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The early minutes of the game looked balanced with few chances created by the two teams. Asante Kotoko cane close in the 21st minute to open the score but Peter Amidu Acquah shot wide.
Isaac Oppong delivered a brilliant pass to Amidu Acquah to give the home side the lead but he failed to strike it pass goalkeeper Gregory Obeng.
Asante Kotoko continued their impressive performance against the visitors by opening the score after half-hour mark through Steven Mukwala.
The Ugandan international registered his name on the score sheet in the 42nd minute when he capitalized on a defensive blunder of Berekum Chelsea to give Asante Kotoko a 1-0 lead on the stroke of halftime.
Back from the break, Asante Kotoko failed to make the mistakes of Chelsea's back line to extend their lead as it ended in a 1-0 win for Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum's side.
Mukwala could have completed their win with a brace in the 96th minute strike but he missed a golden opportunity when Eric Serge Zeze latched on a brilliant pass to him.
