Bibiani Gold Stars are set to appoint Maxwell Konadu as their new head coach following the dismissal of Frimpong Manso.

Manso’s departure came after Gold Stars’ 2-0 defeat to Algeria’s JS Kabylie in the CAF Champions League at the Accra Sports Stadium last weekend, with the result adding to a disappointing start to their first campaign in Africa's interclub competition.

Konadu, 52, is one of the most experienced coaches in Ghanaian football. He has previously managed Asante Kotoko, Legon Cities and the national U23 side, while also serving as assistant coach to the Black Stars.

Gold Stars officials hope his experience and tactical knowledge will help revive their continental ambitions and keep the club competitive in the Ghana Premier League.

Kickgh.com sources indicate Konadu has already held talks with the Miners hierarchy and is expected to be unveiled before the second leg against Kabylie.

Manso leaves after two seasons in charge, during which he guided Gold Stars to a first-ever Ghana Premier League title.

However, the club’s recent struggles at continental level convinced management that a change was needed.
