Head coach of Medeama SC, Ibrahim Tanko, says it is “very painful” to see his side lose first place in the Ghana Premier League to Bibiani Gold Stars.
Medeama had led the table for several months, but a poor run of results has seen them drop from the top after Matchweek 26. Their latest setback came in a 2-1 defeat to Dreams FC, as they extended their winless run to six matches.
Speaking ahead of their next game, Tanko admitted the loss of top position had been difficult to take.
“It’s very painful that we have lost the first position to Bibiani Gold Stars. If you look at our match against Dreams FC, we started the game very slowly. I think after 20 minutes we came in strongly, and in the second half we were the better side,” he told Medi TV.
Despite the defeat, he said the team must quickly move on and focus on the remaining matches.
“It’s unfortunate that we lost 2-1, but I think we have to put it behind us. We still have eight games to play, and so we have to concentrate on that one,” he added.
Medeama will now turn their attention to their Matchweek 27 fixture against Eleven Wonders as they aim to return to winning ways.
The match is set to take place on 27 March at the TnA Stadium, where Tanko will be hoping his side can revive their title challenge.
