Dr. Tony Aubynn, the Board Chairman of Medeama SC, firmly believes that the club deserves to be crowned champions of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.
With 57 points, Medeama currently sits at the top of the league table and is just one victory away from securing the ultimate prize. Their final match of the season will be against Tamale City at Akoon Park on Sunday.
Dr. Aubynn expressed his conviction that Medeama deserves to win the league this season, especially considering the missed opportunities in previous years.
“Then before COVID-19, we were also in the lead when government postponed the league and we think we have not been fairly treated by nature so it’s our time to win," he told Graphic Sports.
The Chairman highlighted that Medeama had a comfortable lead during the normalization period but had the league abruptly truncated. Consequently, the team is determined to make the most of their current opportunity.
“We are confident of winning the league, we think that we have been hard done by nature you remember that during the normalisation period, we were in a comfortable lead and then the league was truncated," he added.
Dr. Aubynn also mentioned his aspiration to see Medeama succeed in the CAF Champions League. While he acknowledges the ultimate goal is to win, he stressed the importance of reaching the money zone to ensure their investments are not in vain.
“I have always been disrespectful of lower targets, I think the ultimate is to win but realistically, you need to enter into the money zone because if you put in all your effort and investment and you don’t actually get to the money zone, you would have spent money for nothing," he stressed.
Medeama SC is poised to give their all in the final match, with the hope of securing the league title that they believe they deserve.
