Former striker and CEO of Asante Kotoko, Samuel Opoku Nti, says former Dreams FC gaffer Karim Zito has the competence and experience to turn around the fortunes of the club.
According to Opoku Nti, also known as Lord Zico, Zito's appointment was good and was done at the right time.
The retired footballer, who featured for Kotoko between 1980 and 1985, told Akoma FM that the timing of Zito's arrival was right and the best decision that the management of the club has taken in recent times.
“I believe the timing was right. We had about six matches left before Zito arrived. Now it’s five and I think it was the correct decision,” Opoku Nti said.
“The way Kotoko was playing match after match, something wasn’t clicking. It’s better to sacrifice one individual than risk the entire team falling apart.
“This happens even in Europe. I knew that if they changed the coach, Kotoko could win two or three matches in a row.”
Zito has gotten off to a great start as Kotoko interim gaffer, guiding the Porcupine Warriors to a well needed 1-0 win over Aduana Stars on Sunday.
