Black Stars head coach Otto Addo earlier this afternoon, announced his squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
Among the 23 players invited comprises of three goalkeepers which includes goalkeeper Frederick Asare as the only home-based player in the squad.
The idea to include the Asante Kotoko goalie didn't go down well with some section of the Ghanaian football fans and strongly opposed that decision.
However, coach Otto Addo has been explained he will like to maintain certain players in the team for quiet some time to help them gain experience with the senior national team.
"There were many good goalkeepers, like Benjamin Asare [of Hearts of Oak] to mention one of them and also Dreams FC goalkeeper [Solomon Agbasi] did extremely very well, and we discussed it with our goalkeepers' coach to take decision.
"We are always looking for long term development and integration of young talented players and goalkeepers in general.
Frederick Asare is a young talented goalkeeper and since we want to also look a bit further, this urge gave the last decision
“We know if we go further with him for two or three more years and he gets the experience, he would get better."
Ghana will kickstart the 2025 AFCON qualifiers campaign against Angola on August 5, at the Baba Yara Stadium, before they take on Niger in four days time in Berkane.
