Asante Kotoko are closing in on the appointment of highly-rated coach Samuel Boadu as their new head coach following the resignation of former gaffer Abdul Karim Zito a week ago.

Boadu, the former gaffer of arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak, is currently in charge at Berekum Chelsea in the Ghana Premier League and is still working tirelessly to improve the team’s form which has been somehow inconsistent.

Karim Zito resigned following a painful league cup eviction they suffered against Aduana FC in the round of 16. In his absence, assistant coach Prince Owusu took charge of the team throughout last week and guided them into the Super-Clash which they lost narrowly on home soil.

The highly-rated coach is emerging as the leading candidate to take over at the Baba Yara Stadium. His appointment would be a bold move, given his successful history against Kotoko during his Hearts of Oak tenure.

Boadu boasts an impressive trophy haul from his time at Hearts of Oak, where he guided the Phobians to the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League title to end their over a decade drought.

He further won them two MTN FA Cups in 2021 and 2022, the 2021 Ghana Super Cup, and the 2022 President’s Cup.
