Accra Hearts of Oak have completed their first big signing of the 2025 winter transfer window, and it's a pretty exciting one.
Highly rated midfielder Seth Osei, fresh off serving a ban, has put pen to paper to a two-and-half-years deal with the Phobians.
So... is Osei any good?
Here are some facts to impress fans of the Continental Club Masters with about the talented 25-year-old.
He was discovered by Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord Academy( WAFA)
As a pupil of St. Francis R/C Primary B, Techiman, Osei was discovered by scouts of Gomoa Fetteh Football Academy now rechristened West African Football Academy(WAFA) while playing for his school in the inter-schools football competition and was adjudged the best player of the competition. Amazed by talent and skillset, the scouts wasted no time luring him to join the one of the country's most prestigious football academies.
His European Venture Didn't Go as Planned
Having spent barely any time at all playing top level football in Ghana before Europe took notice, much was expected of Osei when he was snapped up by Feyenoord Rotterdam's U-13/14s. A brief spell with the U14 and 15 teams of Spanish side Rayo Vallecano followed.
He continued his impressive performances and was rewarded with a move to the U-14 of FC Barcelona. Six months later, he joined the U-16 side of Atletico Madrid. Spells with Cypriot clubs Ayia Napa and Spain's SS Reyes followed but the tricky Osei could still not find his feet in Europe hence his return to Ghana.
He almost joined Accra Hearts of Oak
On his return to the country, the Phobians were prompted of this prodigious talent. The Ghanaian giants under the instruction of Scottish gaffer Frank Elliot Nuttal made an attempt to sign him but a break in negotiations would mean Seth Osei's hopes of playing for one of the country's biggest clubs would hit a snag. Osei would join Techiman Eleven Wonders instead.
He was Scintillating for Ashantigold in the 2020/21 season
He came to attention during the second half of the 2020/21 football season having joined the Miners as a free agent and having previously played for Techiman Eleven Wonders.
The midfielder scored an impressive 6 times, but even more staggering created a further 6 assists for the Obuasi club in 16 appearances with 3 MVP accolades.
His ability to both cut defences open with ease as well as being both clinical and composed when in front of goal himself, makes it no surprise that he earned his way into the picture.
Playing Style
Anyone who has even caught a glimpse of Seth Osei playing football can tell you that he is one of the most technically gifted players in the Ghanaian topflight league. He is insanely easy on the eye to watch, and makes the game look so effortless while popping up all over the pitch. He simply glides when the ball is at his feet, and can pick out teammates at any distance no matter how badly the opposition want to close him down. The former Ashantigold midfielder quite simply is one of the best in the business.
Preferred position
Sometimes, a footballer's versatility can be a real hindrance, however, Osei's ability to play nearly anywhere behind the striker hasn't halted his progress at all.
Throughout his career, he has been deployed across the front three and as a central or wide midfielder for his clubs but it is undoubtedly as a number ten - where he has spent the majority of his time on the field - that he comes into his own.
His ability to press high and energetically, combined with an unerring knack for finding pockets of space between opposition lines, make him a constant threat when he roams as the player behind the main striker.
