Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare expressed immense joy after playing a decisive role in his side’s hard-fought victory over Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League.
The Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper delivered an outstanding performance in the Week 22 encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, producing a series of crucial saves to help the Phobians secure all three points. His efforts earned him the Man of the Match award at the end of the tense contest.
Speaking after the game, a delighted Asare commended his teammates for their determination and discipline, admitting the victory did not come easily.
“Although we have gotten the victory today, the Ghana Premier League is not easy. Our goal-scoring ability has been low, but in this match, we were determined to get a win. I will continue to do my job whenever I’m in post,” he said.
The goalkeeper stressed that the title race remains wide open and believes consistency and determination will be key if Hearts are to mount a serious challenge.
“If you look at the league, any team in the 1–5 position can win the league. It’s all about determination on the field. Winning the league will be a great opportunity for us. After beating Kotoko, we have to stay aggressive in our upcoming matches to ensure we keep winning,” he added.
The victory lifts Hearts of Oak to third place in the Ghana Premier League standings with 39 points, closing the gap on leaders Medeama SC to just five points as the title race gathers momentum.
