Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has hailed his side’s discipline and composure after their gritty 1-0 win over Dreams FC in the opening match of the Ghana Premier League.
The decisive moment came midway through the first half at the Kpando Sports Stadium when centre-back Ebenezer Abban calmly dispatched a 25th-minute penalty, sealing three points against a team Hayford admitted has often troubled his side.
“Dreams has been a bogey club for us and it was not easy beating them,” the veteran coach reflected after the match.

Hayford was particularly pleased with his players’ ability to follow tactical instructions in decisive moments.
“I am happy with the instructions I gave to my attackers – that they should control [the ball], and when they enter the 18-yard box, they should not panic because there’s another option if they are brought down [penalty]. And that was the only goal of the match,” he explained.
The result leaves Heart of Lions fifth in the early standings after Week 1, as attention turns to their next match – a trip to face newly promoted Eleven Wonders at the Ohene Ameyaw Stadium.
