Ampem Darkoa Ladies have narrowly beaten Nigerian side Delta Queens by 1-0 in an epic WAFU Zone B final at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium to emerge as champions and will play in the third edition of the women Champions League.

Coach Nana Joe Adakwah assembled a very strong line up for the final signifying how desperate he was for nothing but the trophy and qualification to the main competition.

Goalkeeper Aishetu Fatao Awini was maintained in post, captain Mavis Owusu alongside Mary Amponsah, Comfort Yeboah, Nancy Amoh, Tracy Twum, Ophelia Amponsah, all were handed starting berths

The 'Nanamma' girls proved their superiority right from onset, having dominated their opponents in terms of everything but the scoreline remained goalless as of 30 minutes in play.

Finally on the 43rd minute, Ampem Darkoa Ladies grabbed the lead from set piece, exactly what they have been hunting for.

It was a free kick and the delivery was made by Nancy Amoh from the right side, goalkeeper struggled to deal with it properly as the ball fell on the path of Ophelia Amponsah who made no mistake by connecting into the net to put her side ahead. It finished 0-1 after first half.

Back from recess, both teams returned on a blistering note and took the game at each other in an exciting even exchanges in the early stages.

Delta Queens came in, attacking with so much intent and purpose unlike the first half as they chase for the equalizer whiles Ampem Darkoa looked really cautious at the back in a quest to preserve their lead.

The Nigerian champions came close to snatching the leveller on the 87th minute after a defensive clanger at the back but goalkeeper Aishetu Fatao Awini reacted quickly to have it covered.

After five 90+5 minutes, the referee blew her whistle to end proceedings and Ampem Darkoa Ladies are the 2023 WAFU Zone B Qualifiers champions and have advanced to the 2023 TotalEnergies CAF Women's Champions League.
