Nana Yaw Amponsah, the Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko, has come forward to defend the club's underwhelming performance in the ongoing 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season, emphasizing that it is unrealistic to expect victory every year.
Despite being the defending champions, Kotoko has struggled this season and currently sits in 6th place with 44 points after 30 games played. Additionally, the club has been eliminated from the FA Cup, indicating that they may end the season without any silverware.
In an interview with Joy Sports, Nana Yaw Amponsah acknowledged that things have not gone as planned but emphasized that such fluctuations are normal in sports.
"We will continue to persevere until the end. The reality is that it is impossible to win every year," he stated.
"Two years ago, Hearts of Oak won the league, but last season they finished sixth. We emerged as champions last year, but this season we are facing challenges. That's the nature of sports. Therefore, we will continue to fight until the end," he added.
Asante Kotoko is scheduled to visit Kotoku Royals for their matchday 31 fixture, which will take place at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu.
