Asante Kotoko head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has voiced his excitement about the return of striker Kwame Opoku, emphasizing the player’s goal-scoring prowess and professionalism.

Opoku rejoined the Porcupine Warriors on a two-and-a-half-year deal after stints with Moroccan club Olympique Khouribga and Algerian side USM Alger. The 27-year-old previously impressed at Kotoko, scoring seven goals in 16 Ghana Premier League appearances before moving abroad.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of Kotoko’s Super Clash against archrivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, December 15, Dr. Ogum lauded Opoku’s potential to bolster the team’s attack.

“He’s a fine striker, a fine player. I admire his level of professionalism, and he’s happy to be back at the club to contribute his quota,” Dr. Ogum stated. “We know he has an eye for goal, and that’s exactly why we’ve brought him on board.”

During his time in North Africa, Opoku tallied five goals and six assists in 33 Ligue Professionnelle 1 appearances. His experience and sharp instincts in front of goal are expected to play a crucial role as Kotoko look to climb the league table.

Dr. Ogum further emphasized the need to support the forward, saying, “We only have to support him and let him believe that he is a quality player. That’s why we’ve brought him back. As a coach, I’m happy to have him in the team.”

Sunday’s Super Clash, kicking off at 15:00 GMT, is a crucial encounter for both teams. Hearts of Oak currently sit sixth on the table with 19 points, just one ahead of Kotoko in seventh.
