Dreams FC coach Abdul Karim Zito has finally broken his silence on the controversial 8-1 victory over Real Tamale United (RTU) on June 12, 2024.

According to Zito, his team played the game under protest due to allegations that RTU intentionally deceived the match officials by using unregistered players to impersonate officially registered players.

The match saw Dreams FC's Agyenim Boateng Mensah score five goals, while Benjamin Bature added two more. Dede Ishmael completed the scoring spree, with RTU's only goal coming from Lord Adabo, who did not even travel to Dawu for the game.

Speaking to Kessben Sports, Coach Zito revealed that he had instructed his team manager to inspect RTU's players before the game, as they had received information that the team would be playing with young players. However, after failing to produce the required documents, Dreams FC decided to play the game under protest.

"We made a protest on that before the game," Zito said. "Based on the information we had before the game that they were going to play with young players (unregistered players), I instructed my team manager to inspect them to provide anything they ought to have produced and after they failed to produce them I ensured that we played the game under protest."

RTU has been charged by the Ghana Football Association's Disciplinary Committee and has until Friday to respond to the charges.
