The 26-year-old forward of Nigerian descent has penned fresh terms with the German top division giants with his new deal set to take him through to 2031
English-born Nigerian forward Nathan Tella has signed a contract extension deal with Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, the club have confirmed.
The ex-Arsenal U18 star, who linked up with Die Werkself from English Championship outfit Southampton in 2023, has so far lived up to his great expectations at the BayArena and has now been tied down to a long-term contract for the subsequent football seasons.
A statement confirming the contract extension of the former Burnley loanee man reads: ''Bayer 04 Leverkusen have extended the contract with forward Nathan Tella ahead of schedule. The versatile 26-year-old, who can be deployed as a right winger, false nine or left winger, has penned a new contract to 30 June 2031. Tella joined the Werkself from Championship club Southampton in 2023. His previous contract ran to the summer of 2028.''
The forward has told his club's official website: ''An expression of a special relationship. I really feel at home at Bayer 04, the first few years have seen a lot of fantastic successes. It's great fun to now be part of the development of a new and powerful team. I’m sure we will achieve our goals again in the coming years."
Sporting director Simon Rolfes added: ''We are delighted we will be keeping a likeable and top-class professional in our ranks over the long term. Nathan Tella is a top performer on the pitch and an enormously important player in the dressing room. His identification with Bayer 04 is evident and visible every day. In sporting terms, his pace and footballing ability are the outstanding qualities Nathan brings to our team."
He has so far taken in 16 appearances for Bayer 04 Leverkusen across all competitions in this current 2025-26 campaign.
Nathan has won 2 caps for the Nigeria national football team on the international stage at the senior level after deciding to pledge his nationality allegiance to the Super Eagles in 2023.
